GRIBSKOV GYMNASIUM GRIBSKOV UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL
Kirsten Jeppesen, the Head of Gribskov Upper Secondary School. "Welcome!Gribskov Upper Secondary School is part of the upper secondary level of the Danish educational system. It is a self-governing institution financed by grants from the Ministry of Education. The head of the school answers to a board which has the overall responsibility for the running of the school. The school is medium-sized and it was founded in 1979. Most of our students are between 16 and 19 years old. One important goal for Gribskov Upper Secondary School is to prepare our students for higher education at university level and similar institutions of higher education. The school´s objective is to cater for the academically minded students. The school employs 65 teachers who all hold university degrees and teach only the subjects of their degrees. The teachers are encouraged to constantly improve their pedagogical and professional skills by attending a large variety of in-service training programmes. This is to ensure that our students acquire substantial academic training and develop human abilities which enable them to become full-scale members of our democratic society. Gribskov Upper Secondary School offers three-year-courses leading to the Upper Secondary Leaving Examination. The courses emphasize a broad theoretical education of high academic standard, and interdisciplinary themes and problems have a high priority. Seven specialized study programmes are placed within the humanities, natural science and social science, and Gribskov Upper Secondary School offers a broad range of elective subjects such as Arts, Drama, Latin, Philosophy, Psychology, Sports, etc. Gribskov Upper Secondary School encourages a stimulating environment and a focus on each student´s individual talents. An important aim is to create an environment which facilitates the student´s curiosity and learning process, and to create an atmosphere of mutual respect. The democratic rights of the students are guaranteed by the students´ council. The school focuses on a number of competences, not least the intercultural competence. To understand a foreign culture and successfully interact with people from other countries it is important to host and to visit students from abroad."
